What Your Plumber Has to Tell You About Remodeling Your Bathroom | San Antonio, TX

Are you considering remodeling your bathroom? If you’ve had the same bathroom for 20 years then it probably needs it. And if you’ve gotten used to telling people that they need to jiggle the handle a little or that the water comes out a little funny to start but it straightens up or any other strange little tricks then it might be time to change it out. But just what should you be looking for in your San Antonio, TX home that will tell you it’s time?

Stained or Dirty Grout

If the grout in your bathroom is stained, dirty, moldy or otherwise just doesn’t look the same as it used to then that’s a good sign that it’s time to look at some remodeling. It doesn’t mean you have to remodel everything. You might be able to just tear out the tiles and replace them. If you really want to save money you could just remove the grout and replace it. But this is a sign that your bathroom has been left to its own devices for far too long. Talk with your local plumber to find out what to do.

Broken Vents

If you don’t have a vent in your bathroom and especially a vent fan then you absolutely want to get these things placed. You want to make sure that you have plenty of ventilation in your bathroom and that’s not going to happen if you’re not running a fan in the room continuously to make sure that you have plenty of air flow. Letting moisture sit for too long is only going to cause more problems for you down the road, in more than just the bathroom. But you can call a local plumber and get things taken care of.

Broken or Damaged Tiles

If the tiles in your bathroom, whether on the floor or the walls or in your shower, are broken or otherwise damaged and no amount of cleaning will get them looking bright again then chances are they’re getting pretty old and worn out. It might be time to change them out and look for something new. After all, you want to make sure that your tiles are protecting whatever is under them which could be your walls or your flooring. If they’re getting worn it means they might be letting moisture through and your plumber would tell you to keep an eye on this.

Corroded or Rusted Fixtures

If your fixtures are rusted or corroded then it’s definitely time to replace them. You could start with calling a plumber to just swap out fixtures. In fact, you may be able to just take care of this and make your entire bathroom look a whole lot better. But you’re going to want to get them removed quickly because that rust can get inside the fixtures, which means it gets into the pipes as a whole and starts to break them down. Not to mention it could hurt the quality of your water which is never going to be a good thing.

Scratched or Damaged Countertops

You might not think that those scratches or dings in your countertop are a problem, but the truth is that they absolutely are. Any of those marks means another place that moisture can gather and every place that moisture can gather is another place where mold and other bacteria can start to grow. You want to make sure that you’re watching for these and that you fill them in with an epoxy if at all possible. Or, you could change out the countertops entirely with a nice remodel.

Peeling Paint

If your paint is peeling you absolutely need to get a plumberto your home. Peeling paint means that you have a moisture problem. It could be just moisture getting into the walls from the outside (like the shower or leaving damp towels in the bathroom) but it could be moisture coming from the inside (like a leaking pipe). You’ll want a professional plumber to come take a look at your paint before you do anything else. They’ll be able to help you find the source of the problem and get it taken care of right away.

Once you’ve determined that it’s time to do some remodeling you want to call your local plumber to find out more. Talk to them about what you’d like to do and just how you’d like to do it. They’ll be able to help you whether you’re looking to do minor remodeling or you’re looking to make some big changes. Whether you just want to swap out the fixtures and tiles or you’re looking to reconfigure your entire bathroom you’re definitely going to be more than happy when you work with your local plumber to get everything taken care of.

Things like replacing or upgrading the tile, changing out fixtures and repainting can make a huge difference in the way that your entire bathroom looks. You may even be surprised how much a few little changes could make. Just changing fixtures and decorations and painting could make an entirely new look for your bathroom and that’s definitely going to be a benefit for your entire household, don’t you think? All you need to do is take a look around and see just what would make the biggest difference in your home, and then start putting those plans into action.
